Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA News) - Sriwijaya Airline is trying to control flights to East Indonesia to meet the high demand of the people there.

"This condition is caused as at present 60 pct of the air passengers are contributed to flights to East Indonesia, and 40 pct to West Indonesia," Sriwijaya District Manager of Sriwijaya Airline in Surabaya, Hendrik Ardiansyah, said after observing the airline`s eight anniversary in Surabaya Thursday.

He said the 18 flights from Surabaya in October had 60,000 passengers.

"The performance was contributed by an average of 95 pct of the number of seats to all routes," he said.

In East Indonesia, he said, passengers had been flown to destinations like Surabaya to Ujung Pandang, Surabaya to Kupang, Surabaya to Manado, Surabaya to Balikpapan, and Surabaya to Banjarmasin.

"The route to West Indonesia is only to Jakarta, while some of the passengers also used the route to continue their trip to Batam or Medan," he said.

In the meantime, with regard to the interest in passengers for a year-end holiday, he said the packed route include the Surabaya-Manado, Surabaya-Kupang, and Surabaya-Bandung route.

And many of the passengers for the upcoming holidays have even bought their tickets in advance.

On the other hand, he was optimistic that the ticket sales for the year-end flights had been increasing by 10 to 15 pct compared to their performance in last years` same period.
