Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered a prompt investigation of the collapsed bridge in Kutai Kertanegara district, East Kalimantan, on Saturday which left at least four people dead and 33 others injured, a minister said.

"The President has ordered a prompt investigation to prevent a recurrence of such happening," Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono said when inspecting the collapsed bridge in Kutai Kartanegara district, East Kalimantan, early Sunday.

Agung Laksono, along with Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto arrived in Tenggarong, capital of Kutai Kartanegara district, at 02.12 a.m. on Sunday.

The two ministers later visited victims of the collapsed bridge at Kutai Kertanegara city police command post.

After holding a closed-door meeting with Kutai Kartanegara district head Rita Widyasari, East Kalimantan provincial police chief Insp Gen Bambang Widaryatmo and a number of district officials, Agung along with Kirmanto called a press conference at 03.30 a.m.

"The President also ordered steps to rescue victims and we have carried out the order. He also instructed (relevant parties) to make efforts to ensure that economic activities here will not be disrupted following the collapse of the bridge," he said.

He said Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih would also fly to Tenggarong on Sunday morning to see for herself the condition of the victims.

The bridge collapsed at 04.30 p.m. on Saturday, leaving at least four people dead and 33 others injured.

Early on Sunday, a Search and Rescue team of the East Kalimantan provincial police`s Mobile Brigade unit was still combing the area near the collapsed bridge in their search for missing people.

By earlier on Sunday 16 people were reported missing by their relatives. (*)
