Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta-based ASEAN Foundation has appointed Pengiran Hajjah Basmillah Pengiran Haji Abbas, who is Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to ASEAN in Jakarta, as the new chairperson of the foundation`s Board of Trustees.

The Board`s former chairman Vu Dang Dzung, Vietnam`s Permanent Representative to ASEAN, handed over the post to Basmillah at the Board`s 27th Meeting here recently, the ASEAN Foundation said in a press statement here Tuesday.

In his remarks, Ambassador Vu Dang Dzung pointed out the importance of the ASEAN Foundation`s activities in particular in the area of the ASEAN Community building process.

Basmillah will assume the chair of the Board of Trustees of the ASEAN Foundation for one year.

Before her assignment as ambassador/Permanent Representative to ASEAN in Jakarta, she had been posted at several Brunei Darussalam missions abroad including the Permanent Mission of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations in New York.

In her remarks, Ambassador Basmillah stated that she would try her best to function as the new Chairperson of the ASEAN Foundation in order to ensure the achievement of the Foundation`s objectives.

The current Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation is Dr Makarim Wibisono, a senior Indonesian diplomat.
