Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has temporarily stopped its flights to Ternate, North Maluku`s provincial capital, in connection with increased activity of Mount Gamalama.

The airline`s corporate communications officer, Pujobroto, said here on Monday flights to Ternate had been suspended after it had received information from Ternate`s Babaullah airport authorities that they had closed the airport for the time being.

Based on the Notification to Airman (Notam) No. CO932/2011 from the aiport`s authorities, the airport would be closed for two days, from December 5 to 6, 2011.

"Based on the Notam, which refers to the activities of MT Gamalama, the company has terminated its flight service to Ternate for the time being," Pujobroto said.

Garuda has been serving the Ternate-Jakarta route two times a day with a stopover in Manado, North Sulawesi.
