Padang, W. Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Padang city`s administration has mobilized at least 104 Disaster Preparedness Groups (KSB) in villages to help keep the community alert in the face of natural disasters, the city mayor said.

"Padang and its environs are prone to natural disasters like landslides, floods, tidal waves, earthquakes and tsunami, so the KSBs are expected to help keep up Padang resident`s morale in tackling disasters," Padang Mayor Fauzi Bahar said here on Thursday.

He said KSBs were also expected to help in efforts to minimize the number of fatalities and material losses during natural calamities.

"As part of its measures to anticipate natural disasters , the Padang city administration has designated a number of buildings for use as evacuation centers," Fauzi Bahar said.

Padang, West Sumatra`s provincial capital, is located on a low lying part of West Sumatra`s coast.
