At a working meeting between the Commission III and the minister of law at the parliament building here on Wednesday four factions proposed a review, four others proposed cancellation and one was absent namely from the National Awakening Party (PKB).
The four factions that asked for a review were the Golkar Party, the Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP), the United Development Party (PPP), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
The other four that had asked for cancellation were the Democrat Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and the People`s Conscience Party (Hanura).
Commission III member from PPP, Ahmad Yani, said the policy ran against the existing law and therefore PPP had urged the law minister to revoke it.
"If the government wants to impose a policy to tighten extension of remission and conditional release the law that regulates it must first be revised before the policy is implemented," the member of the PPP faction group said.
Commission III chairman Benny K Harman from the Democrat Party meanwhile had asked the minister to review the policy and adjust it to the relevant law.
"The ministry of law and human rights must prepare well before announcing and implementing the policy," he said.
Human rights and law minister Amir Syamsuddin meanwhile had asked for time from the House Commission III to study the policy.
"Hopefully there will be a way out to study it and improve it if agreed," he said.
