Wonosobo, Central Java (ANTARA News) - Due to their location at a damaged hilly area, around 27 villages in Wonosobo district, Central Java, are prone to landslides, a local official has said.

"All 27 landslide-prone villages are located at damage hilly areas in Kejajar, Mojotengah, Watumalang, and Garung sub-districts," Wonosobo district head A Kholiq Arif said here on Tuesday.

He said that of the 27 villages, Tieng village was hit by a massive flood and land on December 18, 2011 that left 11 people died and destroyed a number of houses.

"The Tieng village is located at Pakuwojo hill which has experienced an incredible ecosystem distortions," Kholiq said, adding that a team had been formed to relocate the people of the village.

But he said the relocation of the people was difficult and therefore the team would conduct people-based disaster mitigation and adaptation.
