Jambi (ANTARA News) - Floods triggered by the overflowing of Batanghari river as a result of incessant rain on Wednesday night through Thursday inundated around 873 houses in Tanjung Jabung Timur (Tanjabtim) district in Jambi province.

Contacted by phone from here on Thursday, Tanjabtim district administration spokesman Sudirman said the floods hit two villages in Tanjug Jabung Timur.

"The floods have inundated around 873 houses at Berbak and Dendang villages in Tanjung Jabung Timur district," Sudirman said, adding that the flood waters from the overflowing Batanghari river had also submerged rice fields and plantations in other villages.

He said Berbak village bore the brunt of the floods where almost all houses were submerged water.
