Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - Police in Puncak Jaya, Papua, are searching for a motorbike taxi rider believed to have been shot by separatist OPM members in Kulirik, Mulia.

Puncak Jaya resort police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Alek Korwa confirmed to ANTARA News on Thursday that police were searching for the victim, whose identity remains unknown.

Another victim of the shootings, Akar Daeng Nyonri, has been evacuated to Jayapura for treatment. Officials said he had been shot and struck in the back by an axe. His condition is reportedly critical.

According to information received, the victims were shot while taking their passengers to Kulirik, some three kilometers from Mulia, the capital of the Puncak Jaya district.

The shootings were believed to have occurred in a village near the Mulia airstrip.(*)
