DRN is a non-structural government institution established to collect insights from stakeholders on science and technology development in Indonesia.
Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - State-owned pharmaceutical company PT Bio Farma has been appointed a member of the National Research Council (DRN) for the 2012-2014 period by Research and Technology Minister Gusti Muhammad Hatta, the company`s chief said.

"The induction of Bio Farma into the National Research Council has a strategic purpose. God willing, Bio Farma will be able to contribute to research in biotechnology, especially on vaccines and medicinal ingredients manufacturing which are based on biotechnology," Bio Farma President Director Iskandar said here Wednesday.

Based on Presidential Decree No.12/2005, the DRN is a non-structural government institution established to collect insights from stakeholders on science and technology development in Indonesia.

The Council had assigned the Bio Farma President Director Iskandar in the commission of health and medicine technology.

Council members are people who are involved in science and technology institutionally according to Law no.18/2002 on National Research, Development, and Application System.

The DRN is an independent institution tasked with assisting the Minister of Research and Technology in formulating the main priorities and guidelines on science and technology development as well as to give judgments or considerations on strategic science and technology development.

"Bio Farma as an industry hopes that the national research conducted by universities and research institutes in Indonesia could be more integrated and product-oriented driven so that it could be more productive and competitive in world markets," Iskandar said.

Bio Farma was striving to become a life-science industry in tune with the 2030 Bio Economy Era, Iskandar said.

Therefore, DRN`s existence was necessary to reach milestones in the efforts to accelerate scientific research development, Iskandar said.(*)
