Karawang, W Java (ANTARA News) - The central government is developing a fish processing and fish feed factory in Karawang district, West Java, to meet the needs of consumers at affordable prices, a minister said.

Maritime and Fishery Affairs Minister Sharif C Sutardjo said here this week that the government was cooperating with the private sector in developing the fish processing and fish feed factory.

He noted that with the development of the fish processing factory, it was expected that fish production would be increased.

The factory is also expected to help reinforce the country`s fish processing centers, production networks and processing capacity, he said.

Minister Sharif said the factory was built in the area of Karawang`s Cultured Fish Production Business Services (BLUPPB).

The BLUPPB, which sits on a plot of 390 hectares of land, will supply fish feed for fish culture and for the local population's need.

Of its 390 hectare areas, 149 hectares are nucleus ponds and 151 hectares are plasm ponds. The remaining area is being used for construction facilities. (*)
