Sangatta, East Kalimantan (ANTARA News)- The East Kutai district administration is to make 4,500 hectares of land available for the development of its Maloy International Industrial Port Zone (KIPI Maloy), its chief said.

Initially, the project was to be carried out on only 1,000 hectares of land but after more thorough considerations it was decided to add 3,500 hectares to its land allocation, East Kutai District Chief Isran Noor said here on Sunday.

KIPI Maloy would decades from now need enough land for its further development and therefore 3,400 hectares more of land would be cleared for the project.

"I will order the regional spatial control agency to resurvey all land around the projected location of KIPI Maloy to determine the boundaries of the 4,500 hectares of land to be reserved for it so that no land-related problems will arise later,"Isran said.

KIPI Maloy needed lots of space because it would host many factories to process agricultural produce, store houses, CPO (Crude Palm Oil) storage tanks, office buildings and facilities to support port operations.

To clear the 3,500 hectares of additional land, funds would be made available from the East Kutai district`s as well as East Kalimntan province`s budgets

For 2012, East Kalimanran province would earmark Rp 15 billion and East Kutai district Rp 10 billion for land clearing purposes.

After all the 3,500 hectares of land had been cleared for the project, work would begin to build the first phase of KIPI Maloy`s road network ,namely 12.5 kilometers of road. The road`s foundation would be 34 meters wide, and the road proper 15 meters to be divided in two lanes, each 7.5 meters wide.
