Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Nunun Nurbaeti, wife of former deputy police chief Adang Dorodjatun, was charged on Friday with bribery during Miranda Goeltom`s election in 2004 for the central bank senior deputy governorship.

The prosecution from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the Jakarta corruption court charged Nunun with paying bribes to several parliament members during 1999-2004.

Nunun had been accused of distributing 480 travel cheques to parliament members, worth Rp24 billion, in violation of the law on corruption.

The case was first revealed by a politician from the Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP), Agus Condro, leading to the imprisonment of Parliament members from the TNI (military)/Police, the Golkar Party, PDIP and PPP (United Development Party) factions.

After hearing the charge, Nunun said she understood it. "In general I understand it," she said.

The judges adjourned the session until March 7, to hear the witnesses.

The case has drawn much public attention in view of its implication for the country`s elite.(*)
