Yangon, March 4 (ANTARA/Xinhua-0ANA) - Myanmar Minister of Information and culture U Kyaw Hsan has called on the literature sector to be of good quality in striving for the country`s transformation into democractic nation in a correct and efficient manner, official media reported Sunday.

Kyaw Hsan made the call at a private literary award presenting function here Saturday, said the New Light of Myanmar.

Kyaw Hsan stressed the need to follow journalistic ethnics such as impartiality, describing from various angles, not from one single angle, in writing a certain subject in order that the people can review and decide correctly, exercising freedom and accountability and freedom and rationality, ensuring unity in democracy and upholding the national cause in exercising unity in democracy.

Kyaw Hsan noted that the new government, like the previous government, is also taking measures for national education promotion to ensure quality from quantity.

He disclosed that almost all the villages across the country have seen set-up of village libraries to become a constant learning society for rural people.

According to Kyaw Hsan, for national literary development, the governnment is presenting 15 national literary awards and 13 Sarpay Beikman (Literature House) awards yearly, disclosing that plan is underway to offer a national press award for journalists later this year.

There are numerous private literary award foundations in addition to the state`s in Myanmar such as Sayawun Tin Shwe`s, Pakokku U Ohn Pe`s, Tun Foundation and Thuta Swesone`s.

The minister hoped for emergence of more such private foundations for the development of the literary sector.

According to the minister, Myanmar published over 4,000 books on various subjects and over 7,300 journals yearly, pointing out that the number of awards the government is presenting is still less.
