Pamekasan (ANTARA News) - A convict named Makmun (46) at the Pamekasan jail in Madura, escaped.

Head of the Pamekasan Jail Employment Development Section Slamet told the press on Monday that the escaped convict was jailed for allegedly killing a black magic shaman.

"He came from Bringin village, Labang sub-district, Bangkalan, and he was reported to have escaped yesterday, Sunday," he said.

Makmun was an agriculture assimilated convict and therefore allowed to stay outside his cell.

Slamet said Makmud has already spent two thirds of his jail sentence and would walk three conditionally in September 2012.

"But since he has escaped before that, he would no longer have the right to walk free if he is caught," Slamret said.

The security personnel of the jail is still trying to catch the escaped convict by seeking him at his home in Bangkalan.

Separately head of the Pamekasan Police Sub-Division First Inspector Suyono acknowledged that the police on Monday afternoon has not yet received a report on the escaped convict.

"It is now that I have received a report about the case, because the jail authorities did not report it to the police," Suyono said.

The case of an escaped convict from the Pamekasan jail is the second in the last couple of years.

In September 2010, a convict jailed for narcotics named Agus Subroto also escaped from the Pamekasan jail by jumping over the wall when the jailers were negligent.(*)
