Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Fishermen in Balaesang sub-district, Donggala regency, Central Sulawesi, on Wednesday found a Filipino who may have stranded in the local waters due to bad weather.

Head of the Palu Immigration Office Yusuf Sadu said Thursday that the stranded Filipino was named Bernado (62).

He has been handed over by the immigration to the Balaesang Police Sector authorities on March 7, 2012 at 11.30 pm along with his fishing equipment.

Yusuf said that when handed over, Bernado was still in a very weak condition.

First Brigadier Muh Yanwar, member of Balaesang police sector who brought the Filipino to Palu and handed him over to the immigration, said Bernado was found by a number of fishermen engaged in fishing operations in the waters of Pomolulu, Balaesang sub-district, Donggala regency.

He was found helpless in a motorboat all alone.

He was immediately taken to the Balaesang police sector office and given medical help from the local public health center.

Yusuf said he has not been subjected to investigation because he was still too weak.

Judging from the confiscated evidence including a motorboat and some fishing equipment, it appeared that the Filipino is a fisherman operating in the waters of the neighboring country.

He said his motorboat may have run out of fuel, and consequently remained adrift in the sea, and eventually stranded in the waters of Balaesang.

Now for the time being Bernado is being held in an immigration detention house in Palu.
