Jambi, Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Jambi governor Hasan Basri Agus asked the U.S. independent agency, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to help build infrastructures of the national parks in the province.

The governor made the request when receiving the MCC deputy vice president of Compact Operations for Europe, Asia, Pacific, and Latin America, Thomas F Hurley here on Saturday.

Jambi has four national parks consisting of Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat (TNKS), Taman Nasional Bukit 12, Taman Nasional Bukit 30 and Taman Nasional Berbak.

The governor said further that the people living around the national parks need better road infrastructures and electric lights.

MCC is a U.S. agency that helps fight the global poverty and provides grant directly to the people, the governor noted.

Meanwhile, the MCC deputy vice president, Thomas F Hurley said that Jambi is the first province appointed by the Indonesian government to carry out the MCC program.
