Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono said Indonesia is a safe country although it still has a degree of security threats similar to those found in other countries.

"When asked if Indonesia has security threats the answer is that just as other countries, it does. But Indonesia is now secure," he said at a lunch with media persons covering his activities here on Tuesday.

He noted that France, which is an advanced country, still faces terrorist attacks such as the shooting incident that killed four children in a Jewish school in Toulouse on March 19.

Boediono said the government has already taken maximum measures to handle terrorism such as the recent prevention of terrorist activities in Bali.

He said the move had received appreciation in view of the island`s international reputation.

"Efforts have been maximally taken to eradicate terrorism," he added.

The Bali regional police command spokesman, Senior Commissioner Hariadi said that the five people shot to death in Denpasar, the capital of Bali province, on March 18 were not terrorists but suspected robbers.

"Based on initial investigations, they are pure robbery suspects. One of them, known as H, was put on police`s wanted list in connection with a violent robbery in Medan, North Sumatra, some time ago," he said.

During the raid, Hariadi said, the police had confiscated a number of guns. He added that four others are still being tracked down in connection with the incident, including the possibility of a death victim amongst the locals.

Meanwhile, National Police Headquarters head of public information division, Senior Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar, said via sms on March 18 that the police`s anti-terror unit Densus 88 had shot to death five people allegedly involved in a robbery and were suspected to be members of a terrorist network in Denpasar.
