Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Thousands of workers from various labor unions rallied in front of the House of Representatives building in Central Jakarta on Thursday to protest the government`s plan to increase fuel prices.

The workers stated that they were opposing the fuel price hike plan because it would also increase the price of basic needs and transportation by almost 50 percent, while the increase in the minimum wage has only been raised 8 to 10 percent this year.

The workers also said that the increase in fuel prices would hike production costs, further burdening the country`s industries. Eventually, they said, business owners would have to reduce the number of workers.

As of now, the rally in front of the parliament building remains peaceful.
