The police chief who arrived at the House building at 8.25pm Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) asked all parties to respect each other.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Police Chief General Timur Pradopo visited the House of Representatives (DPR) building here on Friday night after the security forces dispersed demonstrators who rejected the fuel oil price hike.

The police chief who arrived at the House building at 8.25pm Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) asked all parties to respect each other.

After his arrival at the House yard, the police chief directly came into the parliament building.

Prior to the police chief arrival at the House building, the police personnel dispersed the demonstrators in front of the House building on Friday night at about 7.10 pm by firing tear gas and spraying water from a "water canon" vehicle so as to make the protesters topsy turvy.

The street rallies against the government`s plan to raise the price of subsidized fuel oil on April 1, took place from Friday morning till evening.

The government seeks to raise the price of subsidized premium gasoline from Rp4,500 to Rp6,000 per liter, and diesel oil from Rp4,500 to Rp6,000 per liter.

Until Friday night, the House of Representatives was still discussing about the subsidized fuel price hike through a plenary meeting.(*)
