Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono received visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron at the Merdeka Palace here on Wednesday afternoon for bilateral talks.

Before meeting President Yudhoyono, the British prime minister visited the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta.

British Ambassador to Indonesia Mark Canning said earlier on Wednesday that the aim of Cameron`s visit to Indonesia was to strengthen the two countries` bilateral economic relations through investment and trade.

"We want to strengthen our cooperation in trade and investment," Canning said, adding that the British prime minister, during his visit to Indonesia, was accompanied by Trade Minister Lord Green and a 35-member economic delegation from Britain.

Canning added that on Thursday Cameron is scheduled to speak before the academicians and students of Al-Azhar University, while the British trade minister and businessmen will meet their Indonesian counterparts to discuss investment opportunities between Britain and Indonesia.

He noted that the visit to Indonesia by Cameron was the first since he was elected British prime minister.

Besides discussing economic relations, Cameron will also talk about cooperation between the two countries in education, climate change, and foreign policy.(*)
