Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa said global financial stakeholders should give a chance and role to developing countries to contribute to international development.

"There are still many people in developing countries that have not been prosperous yet," said Natalegawa in his speech to the opening session of G77-China Ministerial Meeting, UNCTAD, in Doha, Qatar on Saturday (April 21).

In a press statement received by ANTARA on Sunday, Natalegawa also said although developing countries have made progress in the economic field there is still a development gap if compared with developed countries.

To face the global challenges, "Doha Round" negotiations should be completed as soon as possible, he said.

"This is very important to ensure the adoption of a fair, transparent and open global trade system," he said.

Natalegawa added that developing countries are facing very complex global challenges that can not be solved through contention diplomacy.

"Instead of contention, we have to answer these challenges through partnership diplomacy in quest of prosperity for all," he said.

Natalegawa`s visit in Doha is to represent Indonesia in the meeting. As the chief of G77-China, he led a ministerial meeting of the group on the sidelines of the 13th UNCTAD`s session.
