Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Intelligence Agency (BIN) head Lieutenant General Marciano Norman says Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Widjajono Partowidagdo died on Saturday of a heart attack.

"He died after a heart attack. There were no irregularities in the death," he said here on Monday.

According to Norman, the cause of death was confirmed by the BIN investigation.

"No doubt, he has died after a heart attack," he added.

Also, National Police chief General Timur Pradopo confirmed that Widjajono died due to a heart attack.

Widjajono Partowidagdo died on Saturday during an attempt to scale Mount Tambora (2,851 meters) in Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara. He was 60.

Widjajono is survived by his wife, Nina Septi Triarwati, and his 15-year-old daughter, Kristal Amalia.

Born in Magelang, Central Java, Widjajono was a professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and a member of the National Energy Council (DEN) before he was asked to become a deputy minister.

Widjajono, a nonpolitical appointee, quickly received media attention for his down-to-earth attire, wearing mostly denim pants, batik shirts and carrying a ripped sling bag.

Widjajono was known for his passion for mountain climbing. He had climbed numerous mountains across the archipelago, including Mt Kerinci, Mt Rinjani and Mt Semeru, the highest peak on Java Island.
