"We can increase our economic growth and foreign exchange earnings."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono appealed to regional heads across the country to set up poverty eradication coordinating teams at provincial and district/municipal levels.
"Some regional heads have not encouraged and formed poverty eradication coordinating teams (TKPKD)," he said when closing a national congress of national development planning here on Thursday evening.
He said poverty was the main theme of common efforts to implement national development.
"We can increase our economic growth and foreign exchange earnings. But if no progress is made in eradicating poverty we will be wrong because the ultimate goal of national development is to help our brothers who still live in poverty," he said.
The country now had many poverty eradication programs either at central or regional level, he said.
"The poverty eradication programs highly vary. Even in regions alone, regional heads have made many innovations. Therefore, let us coordinate them in view of their great impact," he said.
For its part, the vice president asked regional heads to encourage and form poverty eradication coordinating teams.
"I know that most of regional heads have formed the teams but I received a report that some of them have not," he said.
He said the teams were led by deputy governors at provincial level and by deputy district heads/mayors at district/municipal level.
"Coordination between poverty eradication coordinating teams at regional and central levels is very important because by focusing on poverty eradication program we can form broader networks," he said.
