"Portugal is a maritime nation, while Indonesia is completely surrounded by ocean."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Portugal Ambassador to Indonesia Carlos Manuel Leiato Frota said Indonesia and Portugal could develop cooperation in maritime and renewable energy sectors in the future.

"Portugal is a maritime nation, while Indonesia is completely surrounded by ocean. Portugal has experience in developing wind energy and we can share the technology with Indonesia. I`m sure we have a lot of areas than can be developed to benefit both countries," he said here on Friday.

Frota invited Indonesian entrepreneurs to visit Portugal and explore the kind of cooperation that could be possible between with the two countries.

He expressed hope that the upcoming visit of Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva during May 22-24 would renew bilateral relations between Indonesia and Portugal.

"Relations between the heads of state of the two countries have been good. This is the time to increase business-to-business and people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Portugal," Frota said.

He added that people-to-people relations between Indonesia and Portugal could be improved through tourism and exchange of students.
