Washington (ANTARA News/AFP) - Al-Qaeda`s branch in Yemen had intended to blow up a US-bound airliner in a plot thwarted by American authorities, US officials said Monday.

Officials initially said the Al-Qaeda affiliate had planned to target an airliner using a suicide bomber, without confirming reports the plot focused on an American-bound plane.

But officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP late Monday the plot was suspected to be targeting a passenger plane bound for the United States. (*)
