"The government shall issue an airworthiness certificate."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) will soon summon the transportation minister and other relevant parties to clarify the crash of Sukhoi Superjet (SSJ) 100 plane on Mount Salak in West Java last week.

Speaking to the press here on Monday, Chairman of the House Commission V Yasti Suprejo Mokagow expressed hope that the meeting with the transportation minister, the National Committee for Transportation Accidents (KNKT) and Sky Aviation could be held soon.

A report had it that the Russian-made aircraft had yet to secure an airworthiness certificate from the Indonesian transportation ministry to conduct a demonstration flight.

"Article 38 point a up to point c of Law No. 1/2009 on aviation stipulates that the government shall issue an airworthiness certificate to conduct any form of flight including demonstration flight," he said.

He said the House Commission V deemed it necessary to know the airworthiness certificates of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 plane both from the Russian aviation agency and international aviation institute.

The KNKT must clarify the cause of the plane crash, he said.

Earlier, member of the House Commission V Muhammad Arwani Thomafi proposed that the government overhaul the country`s aviation-supporting system, including air traffic control (ATC) systems at Indonesian airports.

He said many parties had cast doubt about the ATC systems which they said were out of date.

"The SSJ100 plane crash on the slope of Mount Salak in Bogor district, West Java, reminds us of how ATC plays a crucial role in ensuring flight safety in Indonesia," he said.
