"Hopefully, it has been handled properly."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto has called on the Maluku provincial administration as well as local religious leaders and other prominent figures to help resolve the latest communal conflict that took place on Tuesday.

"This morning, the Maluku governor Karel Albert Ralahalu told me via phone about the incident. The Pattimura birthday is celebrated every year, and there is always a parade. Hopefully, it has been handled properly," Djoko told the press here on Tuesday at Merdeka Palace.

He said he had urged local prominent figures and religious leaders to meet and discuss efforts to curb the conflict.

An intercommunal conflict broke out on Tuesday at the Negeri Batu Merah and Mardika areas in Ambon, injuring around 50 people at a parade celebrating Pattimura's birthday.

The injured residents were rushed immediately to nearby hospitals, including Dr Haulussy Ambon Regional Public Hospital and Al Fatah Ambon Hospital.

Maluku Governor Karel Albert Ralahalu urged the residents of Ambon to refrain from getting provoked by the latest incident.
