Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - South Sumatra province will send a number of its athletes to Kenya to have exercises in a bid to improve their ability in the face of national sports week (PON) 2012 in Riau provice, South Sumatra administration spokesman said.

An official of the Indonesian national sports committee (KONI) South Sumatra provincial office, Djumadin Syafril said here on Wednesday that organizers of several sport branches in the province had proposed to send their athletes abroad to improve their performances.

South Sumatra chose Kenya for the provincial athletes training due to Kenya`s good athletes coaching in international level, Syafril said.

The spokesman, however, did not explain when its athletes will leave for Kenya and for how long.

The national sports week (PON) 2012 in Riau will take place on September 9 through 20, 2012.

In the meantime, East Kalimantan wrestling coach planned to send the provincial wrestlers to have exercises in China and Georgia in a bid to improve their ability in the face of PON 2012 in Riau.

East Kalimantan Wrestling coach Buyahmin said in Samarinda on Monday (May 7) that the exercises in China and Georgia are appropriate to be used as evaluation to measure the athletes` ability in an effort to grab gold medals in the upcoming PON.

According to Buyahmin, the East Kalimantan provincial wrestlers exercises will be held in July 2012 for a month long.

In 2008 PON, East Kalimantan wrestlers grabbed 13 gold medals, while in the upcoming Riau PON, the East Kalimantan set target to gain 15 gold medals from wrestlers.
