...protecting the younger generation
Pamekasan, E Java (ANTARA News) - The students of Al-Fudholak Islamic boarding school held a prayer meeting here on Friday to oppose the planned concert of Lady Gaga in Jakarta in June.

In the prayer led by the boarding school head, KH Fudloli Mohammad Ruham, the students prayed that policymakers would not be persuaded by calls to allow the concert to be held in the country.

"Through this `istighosah` prayer, we ask Allah to strengthen the authorities, in this case the police, so they are not enticed by gifts and do not give a permit for the concert," Ruham said.

Ruham, who is also a politician from the National Awakening Party (PKB), added the rejection was aimed at protecting the younger generation from moral corruption, because Lady Gaga often dressed inappropriately.

US pop singer Lady Gaga`s plans to hold a concert in Jakarta on June 3, 2012, remain uncertain because the police have not yet issued a permit.

According to earlier reports, the Jakarta police had recommended that no licence be issued for the concert in Jakarta, following requests from a number of social organisations that claimed the singer`s lifestyle was not in line with the culture of Indonesians.
