Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - The Search and Rescue team of the Regional Disaster Management Agency has been unable to evacuate the remains of nine people who were crushed by falling trees in rural Aceh after being caught in a gale.

The accident occurred in Nagan Raya district, Aceh province on Friday (May 25), district office chief of the Regional Disaster Management Agency, Mawardi, said here on Saturday.

Eleven workers conducting a water discharge survey in Krueng (river) Isep for the planned constructing of a hydro-power plant in the region were crushed by trees, he said.

However, two of the 11 workers who sustained injuries were evacuated and treated in the district hospital.

Mawardi has not released names of the victims, pending the arrival of the evacuation team to the rural area where the accident occurred.

In the meantime, the local office of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has asked the public to stay clear of the location because wind speeds have reached 36 kilometers per hour, which is faster than the previous readings of 30 to 34 kilometers per hour.
