Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - Dietmer Pieper, 55, a German tourist who sustained shotgun wounds, will be evacuated to Singapore soon, said a health officer from Papua.

The German embassy will coordinate with an insurance company to carry out the evacuation, remarked Joseph Rinta, the head of the Papua health office, here on Thursday.

"Since yesterday (May 30), the planned evacuation has been discussed by his team of doctors, the insurance company and the German embassy," he noted.

Although Pieper`s condition is now stable, he often complains of pain, so the doctors have prescribed him sedatives.

The German tourist will be evacuated to Singapore by a special airplane.

The team of doctors had earlier performed surgery to stop the bleeding from Pieper`s shotgun wounds.

The incident occurred when Pieper and his wife, Eva Medina - a Spanish national - were walking along Base G Beach, Jayapura, on Tuesday morning.

At around 11:30 am, a silver-coloured car suddenly stopped near them, and one its passengers alighted from the car and shot Pieper in the chest.

The police in Jayapura, Papua, have so far questioned four witnesses regarding the shooting. (*)
