...Pieper is receiving treatment
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - A German citizen who was the victim of a shooting incident at BASE G beach, Jayapura, on Tuesday, May 29, will soon be evacuated to Singapore.

According to the chief of Papua Health Office, Joseph Rinta, the 55-year-old victim, Dietmer Pieper, will be sent to Singapore as soon as possible after the health office receives further confirmation from the German embassy in Jakarta and the insurance company.

"There has been discussion between the team of doctors, insurers and the German embassy on the evacuation plans since Wednesday (May 30)," said Rinta here on Thursday.

While awaiting the evacuation process, Dietmer Pieper is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Jayapura`s General Hospital.

Although Pieper is now in a stable condition, he still complains of pain from his gunshot wound, Rinta noted, so the doctors have prescribed him sedatives.

Pieper will be evacuated immediately to Singapore using a special chartered airplane.

"I hope his condition continues to improve, so that he can be evacuated," remarked Rinta, who added that the victim had to undergo a surgery to stop bleeding from the gunshot wound.

An unknown gunman shot Pieper while he was spending time with his wife, Eva Medina, at Base G beach in Jayapura.
