Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri arrived in Ambon on Thursday morning, on a two-day working visit, in a bid to boost the social welfare sector in Maluku province.

The minister is scheduled to make an announcement about financial and social assistance for a number of districts in the province, at Maluku governor`s guest house.

Known as "the province of a thousand islands", Maluku endured a long social conflict that claimed many lives and led to a lot of material loss. The social recovery process and sustainable empowerment for the people in the province will take a long time.

Therefore, Salim Segaf is on a working visit to offer aid as part of the central government`s efforts to support to the province.

During the visit, he is scheduled to offer financial aid for village rehabilitation and renovation of about 200 houses. The minister will also offer Rp30 million each to 20 business groups, totalling Rp600 million, in Southwest Maluku district.

Salim Segaf will offer financial assistance of Rp750 million for the renovation of 75 houses in Central Maluku district, along with other aids, totalling Rp14 billion.

The minister is also scheduled to accompany Vice President Boediono to the closing ceremony of National Quran Reading Competition (MTQ) on Friday night.
