"No one has demanded my resignation."
Lamongan, East Java (ANTARA News) - Ruling Democrat Party leader Anas Urbaningrum has stated that the party is still going strong and is not affected by rumours about calls for his resignation.

"No one has demanded my resignation. It`s a joke. All cadres are still solid," he said here on Thursday.

Anas added that he continued supporting the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in its efforts to tackle corruption cases involving some of his party cadres.

Regarding a survey that pointed to the party`s declining popularity, he said it would encourage party cadres to work harder.

"The survey results would serve as a motivator for party cadres to continue to work harder, so that the party's popularity would later improve," Anas added.

He also pointed out that the survey figures were temporary and dynamic in nature, so they could still be improved.

Anas said the figures would be used during the evaluation of the party`s performance in order to regain lost votes and public trust.

Anas declined to discuss the cause of the party`s waning popularity, saying that it was not important.

"What is important now is how to rebuild public confidence in the Democrat Party," he said.

Earlier, Anas was named by the party`s former treasurer, Muhammad Nazaruddin, who has been convicted and jailed for corruption, as being involved in the alleged graft case relating to the Hambalang sports complex project.
