Chengdu (ANTARA News) - Chengdu Mayor Ge Hong Lin has announced that his city will offer educational partnerships with Indonesia through exchanges in order to push ahead bilateral relations between Indonesia and China.

"I am going to offer partnerships in education, such as exchange student programs, for both sides," he stated during his official visit on Tuesday to the Indonesian ambassador to China and Mongolia, Imron Cotan, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.

Hong Lin stated that Chengdu, as one of the largest cities in China, seeks to increase partnerships in various fields with Indonesia, including education. Moreover, Chengdu has also become twin city with Medan, he added.

Hong Lin said economics continues to develop in significant numbers as Chengdu's population growth approaches two-thirds of Shanghai's. This has created much potential between Indonesia and Chengdu.

Chengdu is the third largest city in China, which is a commercial development center, as well as finance, science, technology, and logistics center, along with being a transportation and communication hub.

"To improve and expand cooperation, particularly in understanding improvements, the exchange program is to be conducted between both sides," he added.

Responding to the announcement, Imron Cotan said that the embassy hopes to participate in exchanges with Chengdu, such as student exchanges.

"We are please by the growing cooperation between both countries and we are going to maintain the amity and cooperation," he stated.
