"We expect the replacement to be completed during the next few months."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The prison term for Australian national Schapelle Leigh Corby, who was convicted in a drugs-related case, was reduced by six months on the 67th Indonesian Independence day, Justice and Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin said on Friday.

"Corby has received a six month remission in her sentence along with fellow convict and Australian national Rene Lawrence," he added.

The minister also pointed out that the reduction in sentence granted to Corby is no different from cutbacks in the terms of other inmates, which were also based on a recommendation owing to the absence of any violation of prison term at the Correction Centers.

"Corby`s name will be removed from the remission recipient list if we receive a note from the correction center complaining about her," Syamsuddin added.

He noted that remission is every inmate's right and should certainly not be used for discrimination, as per government regulation (PP) No. 28 year 2006, laid down in the "Terms and Procedures for Implementation of the Rights of Inmates."

Syamsuddin also said that the latest and revised 2012 general and special remissions provision will continue to refer to regulation (PP) No. 28 of 2006, as the amended regulation is still being harmonized with the old one.

"We expect the replacement to be completed during the next few months," he said.

Other foreign inmates whose prison terms were cut back on Independence Day include Peter Achim Franz Grabmann from Germany, Jean Marc Patrice Garcia and Malaysian national Lem Tian Soon Tian, who all received a two-month reduction in their sentences.

Gary Matin Turner from Great Britain and Mohammed Umar Ranggaswamy from India have been granted a four month remission.

Syamsuddin is expected to make the announcement regarding sentence reductions at the Cipinang prison in east Jakarta on Friday afternoon.
