Tehran (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono met with President Mohamed Morsi of Egypt on the sidelines of a Non-Aligned Movement Summit here on Thursday.

"Egypt has long had relations with Indonesia and we are paying attention to the development in that country seriously," Boediono said to newsmen after the meeting.

Indonesia is paying attention seriously to the development in Egypt in view of the democratization happening in the country which was similar to that experienced by Indonesia before, he said.

The meeting had gone in a friendly atmosphere during which Vice President Boediono gave President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s regards to President Morsi who was just elected president.

Boediono said he had also expressed thanks to Egypt for having accommodated a lot of Indonesians studying there. "This is an asset for improving the two countries` relations for the future," he said.

Vice President Boediono had invited President Morsi to attend the Bali Democracy Forum in November this year.

"He could not as yet say whether or not he could come as he still had yet to check his agenda confirm," he said.

Eith regard to economic relations Vice President Boediono said that Indonesia is always ready to receive economic and trade delegations from Egypt and also send delegations to Egypt on a trade mission.

Plans to increase trade and investment relations between the two countries had indeed been hampered due to reform activities in Egypt that had led to the democratic election of President Morsi.

Morsi was inaugurated as Egypt`s fifth but first civilian president on June 30, 2012. (YH/A014)
