"I immediately called to congratulate him."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Incumbent Jakarta governor Fauzi Bowo (Foke) congratulated Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on his victory in the gubernatorial elections on Thursday.

"Right, I called him (Jokowi). After the quick counts were done on 90 percent of the total votes registered, I immediately called to congratulate him," he said during a press conference at his campaign headquarters.

However, Foke added, he had not yet met Jokowi in person to congratulate him.

"We will arrange it later," he said in the company of his running mate, Nachrowi Ramli (Nara).

Foke stated that he would remain dedicated to the development of the capital city, which was also his birthplace.

"For me and Nara, Jakarta is everything - because it is our birthplace. So we will continue to contribute to the city`s development," he explained.

Foke said he and Nara were ready to assist Jokowi if called upon to do so. "We remain committed to Jakarta. We are ready to help because we know Jakarta well," he added.

Jokowi and his running mate, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, were declared winners based on the quick counts carried out by several survey institutes. However, the official confirmation of the election results is yet to be issued by the General Election Commission, which could take several days.

Jokowi, who is currently the mayor of Solo, Central Java, and Basuki, a former district head, were only supported by Indonesia Democratic Party Struggle (PDIP) and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), respectively.

Foke and Nara, on the other hand, were supported by many political parties, including the ruling Democrat Party, Golkar Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).***1***
