Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Senior Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said that Indonesia wished to strengthen its comprehensive partnership with the US in the field of economy.

"There is a strong desire to strengthen the comprehensive partnership between Indonesia and the US in various fields including education, trade, energy and environment," Hatta, the coordinating minister for economic affairs, said in a press statement received here on Friday.

Hatta is currently in Washington DC, USA, attending a meeting on sustainable development and partnership between the two countries.

He said that the two countries are challenged to maintain the continuation of their partnership without regard to the political cycles developing in the two countries.

"Jakarta and Washington DC must be aware that solid cooperation would benefit not only Indonesia and the US, but also other regions in the world," he said.

He added that there has been a strong desire to build the partnership correctly, in view of the fact that the two countries` relations are not only promising but also complex.

"To manage them, there has to be a partnership based on mutual respect, fairness and equal and balanced footing," he said.

In the meeting, the international community gave its appreciation to improvement already achieved by Indonesia through its economic development plan.

Rajasa said that the appreciation had been shown by the desire of leading US businesses to increase investment in Indonesia.

On the occasion, Rajasa expressed appreciation towards the United States-Indonesia Society (USINDO) that has bridged the partnership between the two countries through officials, politicians, academicians, artists and students of the two countries.(*)
