Bakauheni, Lampung (ANTARA News) - Eight people were killed after the ferry boat in which they were traveling sank in Sunda Strait early Wednesday, according to seaport operator PT ASDP Indonesia.

The ferry boat, MV Bahuga Jaya, sank four miles of Bakauheni port on the eastern tip of Sumatra island at 04.20 am, operations manager of the company's chapter in Bakauheni, Heru Purwanto, said.

The boat reportedly carried tens of cars and motorcycles and tens of passengers. The boat which departed Merak port in Banten province sank at 04.20 am, he said.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, he said.
