Semarang, Central Java (ANTARA News) - A public prosecutor has demanded a 7.5-year prison sentence for Titik Kirnaningsih, the wife of Salatiga mayor in Central Java, for alleged involvement in a Rp12.2 billion graft case related to an outer ring road project.

In a trial at the Semarang anti-corruption court on Thursday, the public prosecutor also demanded that the defendant pay a fine of Rp500 million and return Rp12 billion in cash to the state.

The defendant who is a director of PT Kuntjup as the building contractor of the project has legally and convincingly violated article 2 adj. article 18 of Law No. 20/2001 on amendment to Law No. 31/1999 on corruption eradication, public prosecutor Slamet Margono said.

"Based on the result of an audit conducted by the Central Java Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) there have been irregularities in the realization of STA 1+800 package up to STA 8+350 package of the 6.5-km outer ring road project, thereby inflicting a loss of more than Rp12 billion on the state," he said.

Dani Sriyanto, Titik Kirnaningsih`s lawyer, said the public prosecutor`s demand is too heavy. "The demand should be based on the fact during the trial rather than on the formulation table," he added.

The court adjourned the trial until Monday (Oct 8).
