Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and East Timor have signed an agreement to work together in gender responsive policies.

The agreement was signed between the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar and the Timore Leste Secretary of State for the Promotion of Equality, Idelta Maria Rodrigues on Friday.

Gumelar said that the cooperation on women`s empowerment, gender equality and the planning and gender responsive budgeting is aimed at improving the quality of women`s life and gender equality.

"This collaboration is intended to strengthen and expand cooperation in capacity building and strengthening gender-responsive policies in respective countries," she added.

The agreement is expected to enable the two countries to share experiences and exchange information for building the capacity of the governments and to increase knowledge and promote the success of the implementation of policies and programs for women empowerment.

Gumelar added that both parties are convinced that the cooperation in women empowerment and promotion of gender equality are reflected in the agreement signing, which will provide positive benefits to both countries.

She also said that the agreement will be followed by the establishment of relevant teams of the two countries to enable structured and realistic implementation.

Besides, the two countries also explored the possibility of expanding cooperation in the fields of child growth and development, and child protection.
