Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Publicly traded retail company PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk (Alfamart) reported a 40.21 percent increase in net profit on-year to Rp317.36 billion in the first nine months of the year.

Alfamart corporate secretary Fernia Rosalie Kristanto attributed the surge in profit to strong growth in net sales to Rp17.07 trillion from Rp13.41 trillion.

"The company posted a 27.29 percent increase in net sales to Rp17.07 trillion," Fernia said in the financial report issued here on Thursday.

Fernia said food products dominated sales contributing Rp12.06 trillion to the total net sales with non food products accounting for the rest .

To follow the rise in sales, the company also recorded an in crease in cost of goods sold from Rp2.01 trillion to Rp2.49 trillion, she said.

She said the profit per share rose Rp85.98 from Rp65.95 in the same period.

By Sept 30 , the assets of the company were valued at Rp6.58 trillion up from Rp5.01 trillion by the end of last year.

The company, which operates a chain of thousands of outlets known as Alfamart, sets aside Rp950 billion for capital spending this year, to open more outlets and distribution centers.

Fernia said this year the company hopes to open 800 new outlets or the same as last year`s target.

Part of the capital spending will be raised as bank loans, she said.
