"The investigators are still in the process of questioning witnesses."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta higher prosecutor office has not yet named any suspects in the alleged marked-up funds for the construction of East Jakarta`s Flood Canal (BKT) project.

The Jakarta Higher Prosecutor Office Spokesman Albert Napitupulu said here on Tuesday that investigators had not yet named a suspect but until now they were still questioning a number of witnesses.

"The investigators are still in the process of questioning witnesses," Albert said.

The alleged corruption in the East Flood Canal project is estimated to have caused losses to the state amounting to Rp1.6 billion.

Albert said earlier that the alleged corruption in the BKT project was related to the clearance of a substitution land to the land of the Bina Insan Bangun Daya III social institution who was affected by the BKT project.

It was mentioned that the price of the substitution land was marked up to Rp537 thousand per sq m while its actual price was not that high.

"The investigators will conduct examinations on all parties related to the case," Albert said.

The Jakarta East Flood Canal project was built in an effort to cope with floods which often affect Jakarta during huge local rain or during rain in upstream areas of rivers that empty into the sea through Jakarta.

The flood canal receives water running from the Ciliwung river, the Cililitan river, the Cipinang river, the Sunter river, the Buaran river, the Jati Kramat river and the Cakung river.

The canal passes by 13 villages and stretches 23.5 km long with funds used for its construction amounting to Rp4.9 trillion.
