Vientiane, Laos (ANTARA News) - Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said food and energy security must never be ignored while efforts are being made to overcome current economic crisis.

Meanwhile he also said at the first plenary meeting of the 9th Asia Europe Meeting here on Monday that access to capital for all parties was the requirement for better economic growth.

"We must be able to create conditions in which people especially the younger generation would remain optimistic towards their societies," he said.

President Yudhoyono said Indonesia believed in the reduction of the cost of doing business and would push for the realization of assumptions of the Doha round of the World Trade Organization.

He said Indonesia who would be the host of the WTO ministerial meeting would strive to realize the commitment.

He said he also believed Asia could become one of the engines for global economic growth to improve current world economic situation.

Chinese prime minister Wen Jiabao in his key speech at the meeting meanwhile said an open and just international trade could become an important driving force for economic growth.

The two-day conference was attended by leaders from 48 countries including 27 European countries, the European Commission, 16 Asian countries and the ASEAN secretariat, Australia, New Zealand and Russia. (T.M041/Uu.H-YH)
