Gorontalo (ANTARA News) - A major quake 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted the northern province of Sulawesi, Gorontalo, causing panic among the local people on Tuesday morning.

The quake this morning struck at 09:36 local time with epicenter 72 kilometer northwest of Gorontalo.

"This time it was strong that people rushed out in panic from their houses," Amir, a resident of a nearby village said.

On Monday a quake 5.2 on the Richter scale hit the regions at 08.29 local time with epicenter in the sea 10 kilometer deep, 135 kilometers southeast of Bolangmangondo.

There was not immediate report of casualty and damage to property.
