We also have listened to the aspirations of employees."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta city administration has set a monthly provincial minimum wage of Rp2.2 million for 2013, Governor Joko Widodo said.

"I have met with representatives of the labor union, employers and remuneration council. The monthly provincial minimum wage of Rp2.2 million was signed today after every thing had been okay," he said here on Tuesday.

He said the minimum wage was set after the city administration met with representatives of the labor union, the Association of Indonesian Businessmen (Apindo) and the Remuneration Council.

"The decision to set the amount of monthly provincial minimum wage at Rp2.2 million was made after I had accommodated aspirations from both sides, namely the labor union and employers or Apindo," he said.

The decision was quite fair because the two sides had already agreed to the amount, he said.

"We have met and discussed it with them. We also have listened to the aspirations of employees and employers. As the gavel has been banged, I think the decision is fair," he said.

Apindo had earlier objected to the amount of the new minimum wage on the grounds it would burden employers.

The new minimum wage is slightly lower than the Jakarta Remuneration Council had recommended at Rp2.216 million. It is also slightly higher than the basic cost of living (KHL) in the capital which reaches Rp1,978,789 per month.
