Istanbul (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced Friday that the newly-formed Syrian opposition coalition would open an office in Turkey`s Istanbul.

"The office will be opened in the near future, and we will stay in close contact with its head as a recognized representative of the Syrian people and opposition," Davutoglu was quoted by Anatolia news agency as saying after a meeting in Turkey with Moaz al-Khatib, head of the new opposition coalition.

Syrian opposition groups abroad signed an agreement earlier this month during a meeting in Doha, Qatar, to form a new coalition called the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, in a bid to unite their efforts in the fight against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad`s government.

Turkey recognized the coalition as "the sole legitimate representative of the people of Syria" on Nov. 15.
