"I hope this year the culverts will be built."
Denpasar (ANTARA News) - Members of Parliament in Bali have called on the government of Badung district to build a drainage system in Nusa Dua to prevent the area from getting waterlogged during the rainy season.

"I hope the Badung district government will soon build culverts in areas such as the Jalan Pratama crossroads or the main entrance of the tourist spot in Nusa Dua in order to prevent them from being waterlogged during the rainy season," Commission IV Council Bali member Wayan Rawan Atmaja stated here on Wednesday.

"During to the rainy season, those areas get littered with puddles as deep as 60 centimetres," said the politician, who is also a native of Nusa Dua.

Rawan Atmaja noted that the Badung government had planned to build culverts in those areas "but there is no clarity on those plans until now".

"I hope this year the culverts will be built, considering the APEC summit will be held there in November," he said.

"The rainy season will start in November. Therefore, the Badung district government and the Government of Bali should get the area ready for hosting the APEC Summit before that month," Rawan Atmaja pointed out.

"Do not disappoint the conference participants who will come from different countries, Besides, the event will be attended by 21 heads of state. Therefore, it is very important to have a rainwater drainage system in Nusa Dua," the Golkar Party politician explained.

He stated that the government should start building a drainage system in Nusa Dua as soon as possible.
